UK guitarist Ian Toomey’s third solo single ‘Renegade Soul’ will be released later this month as a stand-alone digital download.
Following on from his 2012 debut solo release ‘Very Soon Everyone’s Leaving’ and ‘Never Alone’ released in January this year, ‘Renegade Soul’ is a resourceful re-imagining of a song the Bitches Sin guitarist wrote for his band Flashpoint at the end of the Eighties which is as relevant now as it was then.

With a razor-sharp riff and a commercial edge ‘Renegade Soul’ captures the essence of Toomey’s normally hidden side as a songwriter, the song giving him more freedom with which to express the width and depth of his playing than the confines and expectations of Bitches Sin would normally allow. That said, as the title suggests the song still packs a mighty punch and David A Mills’s breathless vocals and artistic lyrics add further weight to its deep, brooding atmosphere.
Engineered and mixed by Toomey’s long-time collaborator Mills, ‘Renegade Soul’ is a great crossover track and will appeal both to out-and-out metal fans and connoisseurs of more melodic rock.
Above The Noise
While working on his third solo single ‘Renegade Soul’ Ian Toomey and vocalist/producer David A Mills also turned their attention to another song from the back catalogue of the Bitches Sin’s guitarist’s side project Flashpoint. The result of their time in Mills’s studio is ‘Above The Noise’, a glorious slice of hugely melodic AOR with hooks you could hang a shark on and a rousing, self-affirming chorus, topped off with a solo to die for.
Although it was originally planned to hold this track over for a future album Toomey’s management decided it was a shame to leave it on the shelf and as a result it’s been made available now for a limited time to tie in with the release of ‘Renegade Soul’.
